Yesterday was the 2016 Chinese New Year, or 2567 Imlek, I got one day off from my office so I took this opportunity to take photographs in Vihara Dhanagun, an old Chinese temple in Bogor.

In Indonesia the Chinese temple is called Kelenteng. This temple is used by three kind of worshippers such as Budhisme, Taoism and Confucianism. In the beginning of New Order era in the year 1966 after the 1965 coup d’etat effort allegedly done by Indonesian Communist Party backed by China, Indonesia prohibited all Chinese culture in Indonesia, including the Taoism and Confucianism with its Kelenteng. Ever since that the Taoist and Confucianis had no place for worshipping then the Kelenteng was changed its name became vihara and jointly used by Budhism.

The Vihara Dhanagun was built in around year 1672 M. So, it has been more than 300 years. It is the oldest Chinese tempel in Bogor.

It is very uniqueof Vihara Dhanagun since it has an alter for worshipping the King Siliwangi and Grand Father ( Eyang ) Eyang Raden Suryakencana. They were the ancestor of Sundanese. This is a symbol that the Chinese of Bogor very honor the Sundanese ancestor Eyang Raden Surya Kencana and Prabu ( King ) Siliwangi from Padjadjaran Kingdom in West Java.
