A Heritage Hotel in Surabaya : Majapahit

This  is a legendary hotel in Surabaya. During the Japan  ocupation in 1942 to 1945 this hotel named as hotel Yamato. This hotel was welknown of  a heroic story “Insiden Hotel Yamato” during Indonesian independence war. In 1945 after Indonesian declaration of Independence, Dutch was trying to come back to Indonesia by taking a ride of allied forces that was led by Engliah troop to land in Surabaya.

Dutch raised its national flag the red-white-blue on the top of hotel Yamato, now called hotel Majapahit, in Jalan Tunjungan Surabaya. Then the youngster Indonesian fighters were mad of this action. A boy, the name was unknown till now, climbed the top of hotel Yamato, torn off the blue part of the flag and raise up  back as the red and white flag of Indonesian. It happened in this heritage hotel, now called Hotel Majapahit.

In the end December 2014, I and my family stay at this hotel for 3 nights. It was interesting hotel.
